"With half a day’s leave to use up I headed to Linear Fisheries for a short overnight session as there are always a few fish to be caught on Brasenose 1 at this time of year using zig rigs. Despite the sunny conditions there was a freezing cold wind on one side of the lake so I set up off the back of the wind which not only gave me access to the central part of the lake it was also much more comfortable for me to be in. After a couple of hours chopping and changing the depths and colours of the zigs I had the first bite which turned out to be a lovely low thirty. I thought there were a few more on the cards after that but nothing followed until darkness when a lovely 38lb mirror took interest in the zigs. At night I tend to swap from foam hookbaits to the mainline ziggers as they have additional smell for attraction and it definitely worked on this occasion. In the morning I packed up early and moved to a corner of the lake that I had seen fish showing and within an hour had landed two more bonus fish although one was probably the smallest fish I’ve caught at the lake since I fished it when it first opened many years ago. The only thing that went wrong on this session was that I picked up the wrong rod holdall so ended up having to fish 34 wraps with my 3lb longbows, something I usually use on much smaller venues but they coped incredibly well and I have even more confidence in those rods now after that session fishing at range. As you can probably also see in the photos I had brought the spare spools for the reels I also thought I had packed but luckily the qdx spools also fit my sld reels so that saved the day and to be honest I thought it looked pretty nice too 👌🏻"

James explained "Well, what a weekend at Durleigh! With it being bank holiday weekend, Blaise and I decided to book Durleigh as we could secure a weekend’s fishing without the risk of not being on fish.
We knew we were on for a ridiculous hit after my day session on the Wednesday before, having 22, to 29.10.
The first day couldn’t have gone more to plan. Me, Blaise, and Tom landed 44 carp, surprisingly nothing big!
We both prayed a couple of the bigger ones would come along on the Sunday. And they did. We managed a lot of mid to high 20s and a couple of 30s for Blaise, going 36.11 being his biggest from the venue. These were mixed in with 42 between me and Blaise on the Sunday, amounting to 86 carp across the two days.

Zig Fishing in the spring can be absolutely devastating 🌼 Daiwa's @jacktwheeler shares his top tips to catch more fish on zigs 🐋

Jack explains "my first tip would be to explore the depths. To start a session I will generally commit to fishing three rods on zigs if I feel the carp are up in the water column. Each rod will be set up with a different length zig to try and locate what depth the carp are sat at. Depending on the depth of the lake I will typically tie each zig with a 2 or 3ft variance and change throughout the session until I start getting bites.

My second tip would be to try different colour combinations. The three I use the most are black, black with a yellow topper and black with a red topper. As soon as I catch a carp on one of the zigs I will then change all three rods over to the same colour.

A great tip when it comes to being able to explore the depths effectively is to tie your zigs over depth before the start of the session, if you know the lake you are fishing is 12ft at its maximum depth, tie a load of zigs at 13ft without tying a loop at the end. So when you get on the bank all you need to do is cut the zig to the required length and tie a loop in the end. This tip will save you loads of time on the bank."
